Game Master Discussion / Re: Forge Domain question
« Last post by Lex on February 22, 2018, 12:57:32 pm »
Here's how I would answer these questions.

1.) They can do it as often as logic and reason allow. I'd limit it to 8 hours per day, and if a PC wanted to work more than 8 hours in a day, I'd use the forced march rules (Con saves, with failures leading to levels of exhaustion).

2.)  The feature says they need metal with a value equal to that of the creation, with coins just being given as one possible example, so they can use any kind of metal. Personally, I'd say that coins and trade bars are worth what they're worth, while other metal items (like a dagger, a sword, or a pot) are worth half their market price in metal. So a dagger costs 2 gp, and would be worth 1 gp for the purpose of this ability. I'd do it this way for two reasons. First, this is simply how trading works in the game. Trade commodities (like coins, trade bars, gems, art objects, flour, salt, etc.) are worth what they're worth, while everything else is worth half their price if you try to sell them. Second, I think it makes sense. For instance, with the dagger, only part of the price of the dagger represents the value of the metal itself. Part of the price also represents the time, energy and skill it took to shape and hone the dagger. So saying a 2 gp dagger is worth 1 gp of metal makes sense to me.

3.)  Yes, they have to have the item they want to duplicate. It says that right in the description: "This ritual can create a duplicate of a nonmagical item that contains metal, such as a key, if you possess the original during the ritual" (emphasis mine).

Also, notice that what the text technically says is you can create one item, worth up to 100 gp, in an hour with the ritual. So that means if the PC is trying to make a key worth 2 gp, he can make one in an hour, he can't make 50. ;) I'm just pointing this out, because that's exactly the kind of thing a player would try. ;)

Game Master Discussion / Forge Domain question
« Last post by Chris B on February 22, 2018, 12:43:35 pm »
Ok folks I have a second level Cleric (Forge Domain) the party and is looking forward to using their "Channel Divinity" blessing to make simple items or weapons (100gp value or less) in one hour as long as they have metal valuing at least equal to the price of the item in the PHB.

My questions:
1) How often can they do this?  It appears they could do it every hour as long as they have the time and the right value of metal at their disposal.
2) I know they can use coins in this divine act, but what if they have scrap metal or old weapons from somewhere.  How do you determine their worth?
3) If they want to duplicate an item (like a key, for instance) do they need to have it in their possession?

Thanks for any help.

Slightly off-topic, but those last two episodes of Rebels was a gut-punch! I'm really impressed with what they're doing with the show. I'll avoid spoilers, though, as I'm sure not everyone has seen the latest episodes yet.

Yeah this is great news.  Volos Guide has really helped me in my current campaign and if this new book is half the book Volo's is then I'll be happy.  I'm very interested in their Dwarf vs Duergar section as those are races that are in focus in my current game that could really enhance that part of my campaign.

Hooo wow!!  Those maps are straight DOPE!  Did you make them yourself or did you have them made for you!  Very very nice  8)

Mythology looks interesting as well.  Are you starting a campaign there soon?

Yeah man, that's how I started as well.  Just a local area that grew and grew after time.  Now that I've started my campaign I have so much more fuel for details and intricacies that I wouldn't have thought of on my own.  It's amazing what other perspectives will do for your creativity.
It's also amazing what PC decisions will do to force you to go to places you never dreamed of  :)  but those are sometimes the best moments.

This looks great!  I don't play Genesys so I'm not familiar with some of the terms but the layout is clean and easy on the eye.  I'd be stoked to get something like this to start a new campaign.  Well done.
