My Homebrew world of Eylus
« on: February 05, 2018, 06:16:12 am »
Hey everyone, just thought I'd get us started here.  Eylus (or Ilus) means beauty in Estonian and it seemed like a cool name for this new world.  Here's a bit of an overview of where I'm heading.  Let me know what you think!

Eylus is a large world with 16 creators (deities) that make up the Pantheon Celeste. Each have had a hand in creation of the world and in the creation of the intelligent races - Empereyan, Nephilim, Peleandor, Draconum, Marin, and finally the Celeste Patrium. Sharing the power of creation with those races was their first fault and a delicate balance must be fashioned or the world will cease to exist.
Beautiful in scope and environments, Eylus also has a sinister side that is always finding a way to break free of its bonds and wreak havoc on those who created them.

The Empereyan are the titans who helped to shape the broad features of the world - the mountains, the hills and the rivers. Carving out the valleys, planting the forests and hollowing out basins for the lakes.
The Nephilim are the elves who introduced magic into the world - originally to bring beauty and glory from the broad strokes of creation by knitting the rough elements of civilization (wood and stone) into seamless construction.
The Draconum were the prophets. Gloriously beautiful and frightening all at once, they were a visible picture of the gods and were their voices as well as their most trusted co-creators. They were fierce protectors and moderators of the creative symphony. They were given the wisdom to see the underlying scales of chaos and order and were also the first to be tempted by this power.
The Peleandor are the dwarves who were given the task to help shape the foundation of the world. Setting the bedrock in place and working closely with the Empereyan to lay the base of the mountains where the treasure of the world would be stored.
The Marin helped shape the limits of the ocean and order the life of the sea. The Krakken shaped the mysteries of the deep and the Merfolk helped to bring order in that realm.
These intellligent races co-created with the 16 but eventually the seeds of fear and mistrust corrupted this symphony of collaborative creation and chaos ensued.
Light gave way to darkness, and order fell in favor of confusion and corruption. The Celeste Patrium (humans) were the gods' final creation - a final "roll of the dice" to bring balance to the world.

This is the state of things that were and things that are yet to be ...

(I started putting the details of this world on WorldAnvil just to keep things in order, but I'm happy to share as much (or as little) as people would like to know here.)

Thanks!  I got the limited pantheon idea from your homebrew world of Primordia and it simplifies so many things without taking away a healthy depth of aspects and cultural diversity.
I just started running a campaign in Eylus and have done two sessions.  So far its been fun to explore and adjust as we go.

Nothing beats running the game in your own setting!

Very nice. I can already imagine sights and scene. Great description. Short, and concise. Gives me enough to start with and makes me want more.

The Marin and the Empereyan

After the gods created the sphere and placed the moon and the sun on their courses in the sky, the 16 collaborated all of their creative energy to establish a world of unrivaled beauty (compared to what?  Who knows?).  The 16 were creators, fashioned and brought together by something else - the unknown one.
Following the example of the one that brought them into being, they imagined co-creators who would work with them to bring definition and beauty to the world of Eylus.
First came the Marin and of these the most beautiful and complex was the Krakken who helped to shape the floor of the seas and began to claim the edges of the great expanses of the water.  The Merfolk were also brought forth and they brought definition to the deep and worked in tandem with the other races to define and limit the reach of the water.  The waves crashing against a rocky coast is a divine picture of the first hints of greed and malice among the created.
Then came the Empereyan, the titans.  What are now known as Storm Giants, Stone Giants and Cloud Giants were formed and they imagined the heavens and the earth.  The clouds, the rain, lighting and thunder raged and helped to form the land and fill the might rivers and lakes.  These giant creatures were the mighty hands of the 16, molding the continents and negotiating their boundaries with the Marin.

Nicely done!  I like the Draconum prophets, gloriously beautiful and frightening.  I hadn't planned on having any kind of prophets in my game but I think now I will.
