Title: Habitable Planets in Binary Systems
Post by: Lex on February 08, 2018, 11:47:37 am
As you may know, Primordia is in a binary system--one with both a red giant and a blue giant star.

One of my favorite shows, How the Universe Works, had a recent episode about the possibility of inhabitable planets in binary systems. It's the second episode of season six, and it's called "Twin Suns, The Alien Mysteries". It's pretty interesting if you're into this kind of thing, or if you're considering using a binary system in your game.

What channel?
Does it mention Tatooine at all?  ;)

Yeah, they actually mentioned Tatooine a few times. It's on the Discovery channel.

You should also check out the YouTube series by Artifexian https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeh-pJYRZTBJDXMNZeWSUVA. Among many of the other "How to make planets" videos he has one on making a binary star system under the title "Build your own Tatooine" https://youtu.be/1nV2ygdKZ3s.

His stuff is pretty technical (although pretty understandable), but it is all really good for thinking about these things.

Yeah, interesting video, although I can't imagine solar masses coming up in an RPG. :) Both of  Primordia's suns are much larger than our sun.
